BPI Sports: Bulk Muscle Review

10/16/2018

Hey guys it's Noah and I have a supplement review for you guys. It is a mass gainer by BPI Sports called bulk muscle. I am going to cover this product on a few different categories. First I will cover the nutrition facts and the list of ingredients, then I will cover the taste and mixability and then I will cover the cost/value.

Now on the front of this supplement it says "anabolic mass gainer". Let's take a look at how "anabolic" this supplement really is and the ingredients that follow.

Supplement Facts

Calories: 620

Fat: 6 g

Carbs: 88 g

Sugars: 9 g

Protein: 53 g

Overall the nutrition facts so far are pretty solid for a mass gainer. It has a good carb to protein ratio with a whopping 53 grams of protein. But you will see later that the carb sources aren't the best. Now lets get into the BCAA's and added extras.

L-Leucine-2.6 g: An amino acid used to turn on protein synthesis which leads to muscle hypertrophy.

L-Isoleucine-1.4 g: An amino acid that promotes recovery and stimulates the release of HGH.

L-Valine-1.7 g: An amino acid that helps the repair and growth of muscles.

Betaine-1 g: Increases muscle mass and strength. This is pretty low dosed but honestly this is a damn mass gainer powder. If you want betaine for gains then look for it in a pre-workout.

CLA Matrix consisting of a proprietary blend of coconut oil, avocado oil, CLA, and MCTs-1 g: CLA is used for fat loss and some studies show it helps with muscle gain. Sadly this is a proprietary blend and we don't know how much of it we are getting. MCTs are fats that have been shown to allow you to burn more calories.

Glutamine as L-glutamine, glutamine HCI, and trans-alanyl-glutamine-1 g: Glutamine is typically used to enhance muscle recovery but recent studies have shown it also helps with stomach health, L-glutamine is typically dosed at 5 g so this is definitely under dosed but again this is an added extra.

Glycerol as glycerol monostearate-1 g: Glycerol is typically use to increase the pump. It acts like a sponge and brings water into your muscles.

The carb blend consists of maltodextrin, cluster dextrin and sweet potato powder. It's sad to see that maltodextrin is first on this label because it is a cheap carb that is used as a filler. Cluster dextrin on the other hand is a high quality carbohydrate that doesn't cause a sudden surge in blood sugar. Sweet potato powder is also a good carb.

The protein blend consists of milk protein concentrate, whey protein concentrate, milk protein isolate and whey protein isolate. It is sad to see that whey protein isolate is the last on the ingredient list. Milk protein concentrate contains less bio-available protein than milk protein isolate but its still a decent protein source. Overall I would like to see whey protein first but it's not a huge deal.

Now I have been using this product for a long time now but I cannot give a proper opinion because I take half the serving size. But I can say based on the ingredients that this is a pretty decent mass gainer product. The only thing that would deter me is the fact that there may possibly be a lot of maltodextrin. But overall if you are trying to gain some mass in strength I would recommend this product. I would give it a 7.5 out of 10. The taste is actually really good, I had both the cookies and cream and vanilla flavors, they both tasted pretty good. Also the mixability is great if you use enough water. This product retails for around 40 to 50 bucks which in my opinion is a really good deal. The value on this is great! Anyways I hope you guys enjoyed this review and I hope it helps you guys make a decision on whether to buy this or not. Have a great day and if you hit the gym, KILL IT!
