Can You Lose Weight Eating Only Junk Food?

12/25/2018

The answer to this question is obvious: no, of course you can't lose weight eating only junk food. It's called "junk" food for a reason, and will slowly terraform our bodies into a junkyard. But it is possible to lose weight on a junk food diet. It does come down to calories in vs. calories out. But here is why you shouldn't eat a junk food diet.

Our parents have always warned us from a strict diet of temptation, as there are adverse health effects to eating strictly garbage. Many ingredients have a higher chance of developing certain diseases, diabetes as a top contender, because who cannot pair a dinner of Wendy's with a good ice cream frosty? It gets me every time.

Going on a junk food diet steadily develops an addiction. Imagine eating a few Oreos a day, because they're freakin' delicious. If you lack the self-control to part yourself from only foods that are tasty, how long does it take before a few Oreos a day become an entire row? Maybe an entire box, because your stomach is sure to expand to hold it.

If you ate only junk food, you would not be getting the essential nutrients your body needs. Energy gained from a sugar high is not equivalent to a balanced breakfast. Obviously, I do not recommend doing this diet. Nobody should.

Do I eat junk food sometimes? Yeah, I do, what of it. I don't eat it constantly, and I try to stay away from sugar at any point other than after a workout, because sugar provides zero benefits for your body (except dextrose, but that's for another article).

Sorry to point out the obvious, but please take a moment to second-guess that bag of M&Ms and grab an apple instead. Nothing as inherently wrong with the natural sugar of fruit if you need something sweet or a boost. I'm done ranting for now, but if you hit the gym, freakin' KILL IT!
